Salt & Freshwater Fishing

This is a question the fisher folk on the Sunshine Coast have been posing and brooding over from time immemorial giving rise to the most curious of speculations and folk lore. When tapping into the finely honed experience of these folk which has been passed down from generation to generation you know you will be a more successful fisher with our guides. Like the brilliant king fisher these fish smart folk are not only successful fishers but know the exact reasons why. Intuitively, our local guides seem to know what the fish are thinking, what water temperatures are preferred, the chosen flow of water currents leading to the best feeding grounds on a daily and seasonal basis, the incidence of light determining the depth of fish and most importantly they have the innate knowledge of where the fish are biting. These folk seem to speak the language of the fish of your choice, their open eyes and ears capably tune into Neptune's grapevine and the results defy belief. An oft chosen salt water site is the spectacular Sechelt Inlet which combines wonderfully the solitude of a mysterious mountain lake with majestic Pacific Coast scenery. The denizens of the deep are creatures of the Pacific and seem to be waiting with baited breath for your creation of new fishing legends. Frequently, while you are sitting in a nutshell of a boat, porpoises and seals surface with salutations. Rarely, so rarely as to be a gift of Neptune an elusive pod of whales will surface to indulge in their synchronized dance of the deep, spouting and breaching the surface before you astonished eyes. Your eyes focus on the steep mountains only after the whales leave if you should be so lucky to sight them in the first place. Mentally you climb the sharp slopes while you break out your hiking boots, strap you fishing rod to you backpack and start climbing the heights which rise to two thousand meters pronto. Your heart's desire is to unlock the secrets of the turquoise lakes fed by glacial streams, indulging yourself completely in high altitude fishing. "What's that you say?" while standing on the shore "You are a dyed in the wool salt chuck fisher!" Well your options are many too, you can fish standing on a beach or on granite outcroppings or even leaning on the rail of a government dock. Then again you could be sailing on a luxurious yacht or even lingering in the bay of a posh resort. Primarily due to the satisfaction fishing gives you, the protection of the fish stocks is near and dear to your heart. You strongly concur with the management policies implemented by all levels of the Canadian government. Only careful nurturing of existing stocks will ensure fishing for generations to come. Five kinds of indigenous salmon (chinook, pink, coho, chum and sockeye) along with abundant stocks of ling cod, flounder, rock cod and halibut (weighting in at up to 180 kg) are natural inhabitants of the coastal waters. A further choice is composed of the crustacean's family of oysters, abalone, clams, crabs, shrimp (scampi) and prawns. All these and more are living high on the lower links of the food chain in the salt chuck and the fresh water of coastal areas. The harvest is endless for the fisher smart enough to try his/her luck in these world renowned waters.

It goes without saying that salmon or their room mates are not to be caught using barbed hooks so the damage is minimized if you should decide to throw them back. As a fisher immersed in conservation of the stocks, you want to explore the joys of fishing in its totality. Fishing either in solitude or companionship, the choice is yours as is the choice of whether or not you will surround yourself in all the amenities or Spartan settings of the rain forest, but wherever your choices nature will be your constant companion. Depending on when a fish species is in season, it is possible to feast on your catch almost immediately. You are on a beach boasting a fire pit (a ring of rocks) with your barbeque grill or cast iron frying pan over the flames, turning your fresh caught catch of the day into a culinary delight. There is no equal as the red sun sinks in a shimmering ocean. Not only is the knowledge of fishing passed down hand to mouth but the skill of cooking it is as well, our guides are well prepared and are not to be stumped by the question "What is the point of knowing where and how to catch it if you don't know what to do with it once you've caught it?" Take it from us, we know someone with ample experience in both these arts. Our guides will show where the pebbles are clicking in the waves breaking on the beach and where the dying embers of the fire leap into darkening sky, becoming sparks masquerading as shooting stars. You are only too satisfied with your just consumed stunning feast to do ought else but watch. You can design your own fishing adventure to fit you time frame, and for those with plenty of time we particularly recommend a combination of saltwater, fresh water and alpine fishing. Chose a B&B or a rustic wilderness camp to return to in those intervals between fishing spots. Do not hesitate to contact us with you inquiries for we are ready to accommodate your desire and requests with our fishing expertise and cast you into an adventure you will not forget!
